Creates and designs footwear consistent with the image of the brand. Must conceptualize and provide ideation sketches, material specifications, and outsole details taking into consideration market trends while following product development time lines.



  • Develop and create illustrations of new design concepts for internal design reviews in accordance with the divisional product development process. Accountable for ensuring products are designed that meet customer’s expectations and enhance brand awareness.
  • Works with Design Management, Product Development and Marketing Personnel to collaborate on design projects and maximize effectiveness.
  • Participates in field research to identify industry trends, competitive direction, customer expectations and current consumer perceptions. Integrates all research into thought process and design.
  • Partner with product developers and Sourcing to ensure that design specifications are accurate and able to be produced within the target costing requirements. Assists management in ensuring designs are commercially feasible and built within established cost parameters. Communicates and prioritizes projects with overseas development and manufacturing teams daily. Updates team on development, revisions, material changes, additions or drops.
  • Continually assesses and evaluates materials, components and constructions to be used in the footwear. Writes Design specs to guide initial prototyping material and color selection.
  •  Reviews last shapes and fit throughout design season, working closely with development and commercialization to ensure product is comfortable and functional.
  • Refines and redesigns existing approved concepts as needed or as directed.
  • Performs well under pressure in a team environment.
  • Performs duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or Illustration or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a designer in footwear.
  • Must possess a strong sense of the marketplace and have a strong fashion and color sensibility.
  • Strong skills in core design abilities: drawing and sketching.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop and any other relevant design software packages.
  • Knowledge of various footwear constructions
  • Ability to visualize finished product; ability to effectively communicate visually through sketches, illustrations and renderings.
