The Field Marketing Lead for Merrell oversees a team of six specialists across the Western US territory whose goal is to drive sell-through of key product stories and engage with consumers to bring the Merrell brand to life in every interaction.  Working closely with the Field Marketing Manager, Sales Team and Marketing Team on retail and consumer activation programs, the Field Marketing lead will help grow brand awareness, engagement and conversion, and help the Merrell brand build lasting consumer relationships both inside and outside the retail environment.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic leader and self-motivated individual with strong communication, organizational, relationship building, and problem-solving skills. This candidate should have a strong passion for being active and an invested interest in the outdoor industry. This position is located outside of the corporate headquarters and includes driving as well as regional travel.



Team management (30% of time)

  • Develop strategies in conjunction with West lead and manager to help drive awareness, engagement and conversion and clearly communicate the plan to the team to ensure marketing goals are being met.
  • Help create regional programs to bring brand to life and drive conversion in key territories.
  • Identify key opportunities for partnerships and product seeding.
  • Help create development plans and highlight top performers.
  • Travel annually to territories to help identify opportunities.
  • Conduct performance reviews for region.
  • Develop and implement new hire training.
  • Organize and lead weekly team & individual calls.
  • Continually look at better ways for the sharing of ideas.
  • Provide monthly analysis of region using weekly reports.
  • Rollout key launch materials and direction.
  • Review and help manage team budget.



Territory Management (70% of time)

  • Drive sell-through at key retail partners through a combination of staff clinics, retail floor time, sales contests, staff incentives, and consumer-facing events.

  • Help create ideal in-store environment based on global merchandising guidelines in key accounts. Secure best placement and visibility for point-of-sale assets and ensure in-store assets align with global calendar

  • Help execute brand launches, partnerships and sponsorships with compelling consumer activations that are inline with the global marketing platform. Help identify regional and national opportunities for the brand to reach and engage with new like-minded consumers.

  • Share trends related with activity participation, products and brands with headquarters to help drive overall marketing strategy.

  • Should work to improve retail partnership through positive relationships, staff education and building programs that engage consumers.


  • Maintain responsible communication with Marketing, Sales and Field Marketing teams through weekly and monthly reporting platforms

  • Maintain and track monthly travel and product seeding budgets, submit biannual YTD reports to Manager.

  • Maintain a sensible travel schedule, including office time and several overnights throughout territory

  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.



  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years of Marketing or Sales experience
  • Must be enthusiastic and energetic and have a passion for the outdoors and getting people outside.
  • Must be ambitious, organized and have strong time management skills as he/she will be working outside the corporate headquarters
  • Strong leadership, initiative and communication skills
  • Must be outgoing and personable to handle daily interactions with consumers, their team, and accounts
  • Ability and availability to work on nights and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) to support key events
  • Requires excellent presentation skills and the ability to seamlessly blend in with an extremely diverse audience
  • 80% of the job is on the road travel
  • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to meet strict and demanding deadlines
  • Strong PC/tablet skills, including proficiency in MS excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Outlook, Database management, report creation, Internet Applications, and Social Media
