    This position will manage and lead the European import and export activities to ensure compliance with customs laws and regulations.  The position will audit, maintain records and perform all activities associated with the Company’s various Customs initiatives in Europe.

    Primary Duties

    • Act as primary point of contact for European customs authorities on general customs matters and Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)
    • Develop and manage productive relationships with various government agencies, industry trade organizations and brand leadership.
    • Manage AEO audits and assist with periodical AEO monitoring-/risk assessments
    • Conduct post-importation audits on customs broker entries lodged on the Company’s behalf and, if required, participate in resolution of errors
    • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes involving the footwear and apparel industries
    • Accurately and efficiently assign EU Combined Nomenclature classifications to footwear and apparel/interaction with US counterparts on product classification
    • Review opportunities to qualify footwear and apparel for Free Trade Agreements (e.g. GSP) and other preferential trade programs
    • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    • A proven experience/track record of (at least) 3-5 years in European customs matters
    • Professional education-/degree-/certification in European customs matters (e.g. customs declarant certificate, master) preferred
    • Strong interpersonal skills for working with various levels of management
    • Proactive in recognizing and adjusting to shifting priorities/ability to respond positively (and flexible) to changing business needs
    • Proactively seeks out and recommends improvements in current processes
    • Ability to complete assignments accurately and within specified time frames, with minimal supervision and direction
    • Proficient in Dutch and English
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (a.o. Excel)
    • Experience in customs brokerage preferred
    • Understanding of ERP systems preferred
    • General understanding of (customs) warehousing procedures preferred
