The Sr. Materials Specialist serves as a partner and liaison between the materials team, brands, and suppliers. The Sr. Materials Specialist serves as a subject matter expert in footwear materials for our brands. This position will be involved in supply chain management, seasonal materials development, maintaining systems used for material/supply chain management, and seasonal material price negotiations.
Manages and curates the Library as a robust company asset to include up-to-date approved supplier material portfolios, technical / functional materials portfolios, specialty category areas, environmental options, and high-lighted innovation section.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of approved vendors capabilities and uses this in-depth knowledge of supplier expertise to direct seasonal developments to appropriate suppliers with emphasis on fitness-for-function, aesthetics, value, gross margin objectives and compliance with WWW standards. As subject matter expert, works closely with product teams during in-season development stage to either source materials or execute custom development on schedule and on target.
Directs approved supply chain partners in submitting content for the Library and manages the seasonal flow of communication / new catalogs / materials / price & information lists.
Curates material category files including inspirational materials to complement supplier catalogs.
Creates and maintains trend and information boards in Material Library for brand and product team with up-to-date material innovations and trends, publishes reports on new, noteworthy material findings
Assists on Material Team projects such as supply chain management, yearly supplier evaluations and score-card activities, maintenance of PDM system consolidation and palette creations projects.
Cultivates supply chain partnerships by organizing twice yearly Internal Vendor Fairs featuring 40-50 supplier groups, coordinate schedules with brand PCC (product calendars), selects participants, books and prepares rooms, sends invitations, creates and distributes trend information to direct material submissions for trend boards.
Between Vendor fairs, invites suppliers for office visits, scheduling brand team meetings, prepping suppliers with relevant trend information, publishing meeting re-caps, following up on sourcing or development requests, showcasing new materials in the Library.
Performs duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
Performs other duties as required/assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably is supply chain, design, materials management, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of applicable experience in sourcing or materials management, preferably in the footwear or apparel industry.
• Familiar with PDM (Product Data Management) supplier module, material module, and BOM module.
• Strong customer service skills, continuously seeking to provide solutions to internal and external customers.
• Able to build effective and collaborative relationships globally; able to influence and persuade others.
• Able to multi-task and stay focused despite multiple simultaneous assignments.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and propose solutions to problems.
• Desires continuous learning and pursues mastery of material and product knowledge.
