    The Category Manager is responsible for directing the development of strategic marketing plans for major category initiatives, implementing category activation across accounts and global markets, and leading a synergistic global go-to-market. The oversight of these responsibilities is geared toward maximizing sales growth, and deepening the consumer’s awareness of and affinity for the brand’s product offering. This position leads a team that is responsible for managing category expression by working cross-functionally to deliver seasonal stories, develop activation strategies, harvest consumer insights, and manage respective budgets. This position reports directly into the head of Marketing and works closely with product, sales, and regional leadership to drive cohesive, consumer-obsessed storytelling. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter with a passion for consumer brands and new business development. An understanding of global markets and a proven track record of leading new initiatives are a must.

    Primary Duties

    • Direct the development of strategic marketing plans for major category initiatives.
    • Direct the creative brief process to develop product story positioning; manage integrated category content.
    • Lead the development of product marketing initiatives, working with product, marketing, and commercial leadership to gain alignment on major initiatives.
    • Partner with international marketing teams to build annual marketing plans and ensure successful implementation of programs (prioritize key markets).
    • Ensure successful implementation of marketing programs for accounts (prioritize key accounts).
    • Direct the development of seasonal category sell-in and sell-thru toolkits for global product marketing stories.
    • Evaluate the global market reaction to category briefs and executions.
    • Manage public relations agency, developing strategies, campaigns, and initiatives to improve consumer brand perception
    • Act as the liaison between the brand and the regional partners to ensure that regional needs and consumer nuances are communicated to the broader marketing division
    • Communicate with commercial teams to ensure that global product positioning and objectives are well defined and manage global consistency of brand message.
    • Lead a synergistic global go-to-market in regards to category marketing, including establishing timelines, communication cadence, templates, and defining responsibilities throughout the brand milestones.
    • Responsible for budget oversight and investment weighting across marketing tactics
    • Model strong leadership behaviors including mentoring and developing a highly professional marketing staff.
    • Drive the integration of consumer insights into the category management
    • Performs duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
    • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications or equivalent work experience.
    • 5+ years’ marketing experience and 2+ years’ in team management.
    • Must be results oriented – with a high degree of personal initiative and leadership – in a fast-paced, fluid and lower resourced environment
    • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines. Excellent project management and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
    • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills - a proven track record of leadership across functional lines that delivers business results,
    • Must have strong consumer understanding skills, ability to translate customer insights into successful marketing programs and a high degree of creativity to find new, compelling ways to reach and communicate to consumers
    • Strong experience in consumer marketing, product marketing, and/or trade marketing, ideally in a consumer products environment. Preference shown to candidates with a combined  classical consumer or customer marketing background and connection-driven or social media background. 
    • A natural leader and team player.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
    • Good oral and written communication skills, including a high comfort level with public speaking and presenting. Influencing skills absoluletly required.
    • Ability to multi-task, combining strategy and execution. A willingness to step in to get the job done.
    • A track record of effectively working to a budget and measuring results.
    • Knowledge of footwear markets and retail climate.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Normal office environment. Travel required.
