The Director, Global Customs Compliance is responsible for directing the Customs Compliance teams for all merchandise imported globally by Wolverine Worldwide, Inc. The Director is responsible for developing programs, processes and partners to ensure efficient, best-in-class service to both internal and external customers. The position will target improvements in supply chain visibility, velocity, and flexibility using cost-effective methods.
Direct the Customs Compliance programs.
Manage all custom clearance activities whether done in-house or through the use of an outside broker.
Stay current on all Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) regulations. Serves as a key member of the Company’s C-TPAT Team.
Oversee Duty Drawback, Duty Deduction, First Sale, FTZ EU AEO, and Reconciliation programs.
Direct an internal team and outside brokers to ensure that products imported by Wolverine globally are classified properly in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
Oversee the Importer Self Assessment Program that audits annually to ensure the Company meets all documentary and process requirements.
Serve as a key reference for all internal departments regarding Customs Compliance and Classification requirements.
Drive leading practices across the group through KPI’s and Corrective Action programs.
Establish processes that improve systems or operations workflow.
Partner with brands and operations to effect continuous process improvement, optimize the supply chain and drive cost-control.
Perform duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
Perform other duties as required/assigned by manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or equivalent experience.
5-10 years experience in dealing with Customs matters required, Logistics experience a plus.
Able to perform in a competent, professional and customer oriented manner.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under stress.
Proven negotiating and analytical skills
Project management experience
Knowledge of international transportation rules & regulations, including hazardous materials, DOT and labor laws. Knowledge of foreign trade zone regulations preferred
Solid understanding of distribution and shipping operations
Strong business software skills, including databases, spreadsheets and website applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to provide results in a time-bound, fast-paced environment
Normal office environment. Travel required.
